LOS ANGELES – An officer with Los Angeles Police Department was struck by a driver in the Jefferson Park area of South Los Angeles Saturday morning.
LAPD Southwest units were on a pursuit termination in the 3100 block of S Western Ave around 2:00 a.m. when an officer was struck by an unrelated white Mercedes passing by.
An “officer down” call for help was put out over the radio and additional resources responded to the area.
The officer was transported to Cedars Sinai Hospital in unknown condition by Los Angeles Fire Department.
The female driver of the Mercedes was detained at the scene and was subjected to field sobriety tests as well as a breathalyzer.
A source stated off-camera that LAFD had responded nearby for the same vehicle with the female slumped over the wheel shortly before the incident.
