COMPTON – Compton College’s annual Transfer Fair encourages students of all ages to plan for the next step in their educational journey by introducing them to a variety of colleges and universities. Representatives from more than 40 private and public colleges and universities will be at Compton College in the campus Quad on October 5 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to share information about their respective programs with students.
This FREE event is open to the public and offers attendees a great opportunity to network and learn about what the different colleges and universities offer students. Local high school students are encouraged to attend to collect information and get ahead in their college planning.
Compton College students, parents, and guests are encouraged to walk from table to table gathering information and meeting with college/university representatives, making it a one-stop-shop for students looking to transfer. From 2:00-4:00 p.m., the day’s event includes an agenda of presentations and workshops related to university transfer.
The top transfer destinations for Compton College students include California State University campuses in Dominguez Hills, Long Beach, and Fullerton, and University of California campuses in Irvine, Los Angeles, and Riverside.
In addition, Compton College has Transfer Admission Guarantee (TAG) agreements with the following colleges and universities, University of California in Davis, Irvine, Merced, Riverside, Santa Barbara, and Santa Cruz, as well as Arizona State University. TAG agreements are also available with more than 30 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) such as Alabama State University, Clark Atlanta University, Fisk University, and Tuskegee University.
While HBCUs were originally established to primarily serve the higher education needs of the black community, they are open to all students who wish to apply. According to a study by the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education, the proportion of Latino enrollment at HBCUs has increased in the last 30 years, especially in regions of the country where the Latino population is growing rapidly.
