Dear 2UrbanGirls,
I watched the recent coverage of the Rolling Hills [home] slides and related property damage and noticed they are calling on FEMA and any other agencies for help, as they should. In fact, the city of Rolling Hills is using leftover COVID funds and the County Supervisor for the area is going into discretionary funds to provide immediate assistance.
I hope everything works out for those affected, but the people in LA affected by the fireworks explosion catastrophe, which is not of their own doing either, are still waiting two years later !!!
In fact, it was the disgraced Los Angeles Councilman Curren Price, whose district the explosion happened in, who referred to some of the displaced as “gaming the system” in an interview with the LA Times because they didn’t want to leave temporary housing until they could get the money needed to repair their homes. Unlike in Rolling Hills, no disaster was declared to “free up” federal resources.

The County Supervisor said the folks in Rolling Hills poured their “life savings” into those homes and needed the support. Presumably, so have those affected in South LA, whose homes REMAIN boarded up. You could fit the entire living space of almost all the residents affected in South LA in one of the homes I saw on the news !!!
So I think you see where I am going with this – the haves get immediate service and the have-nots….well it’s been over two years now for South LA and counting!!!
Fed up!
