LOS ANGELES (2UG) – Embattled Los Angeles Councilman Curren Price Jr. has his hand out and is asking his supporters for financial assistance in the wake of public corruption charges he is facing from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.
2UrbanGirls first reported on the criminal search warrant that landed at Inglewood City Hall last summer that sought information related to medical benefits being paid to Price’s wife, Delbra Richardson.
Richardson filed a claim against Inglewood, in 2019, asking for medical premium reimbursements for the same years she had medical coverage from the city of Los Angeles. Her claim alleged she was promised the reimbursements but the city renegged citing a “gift of public funds”. Her claim was rejected, however, the City paid out over $900 in reimbursements to her, in the name of her company, Del Richardson & Associates, the following week.
Richardson quietly sold her company last year to a black couple, who kept the name and the lucrative relocation contracts it yielded. The most recent being from the city of Inglewood.
His email titled “I Need Support” was sent from his personal email account and is soliciting donations to his legal defense fund, Mark Ridley-Thomas style.
Dear Friend,
I wish I were emailing you for another reason, but I need to address the unfortunate fact that the District Attorney’s Office recently charged me with 10 criminal counts. I want to be very clear that these charges are unwarranted and that I have engaged in no wrongdoing. I look forward to proving my innocence in Court. I do not take the seriousness of the allegations against me lightly but I am confident that once the facts are revealed, it will be clear that I have done nothing wrong. To fight these false accusations, it’s imperative that I establish a Legal Defense Fund immediately, which will allow me to continue to fight these charges with the right team of lawyers.
I want you to know that I have always acted with integrity and professionalism in my role, holding my constituents, and the honor of representing them, in the highest regard. I became a public servant for no greater purpose than to serve the people of our beloved City. We have unfinished business and I remain steadfast in my commitment to addressing the most pressing challenges facing our District 9 families. I am going to ask you to please consider donating to my Legal Defense Fund today so that I can respond to the misguided charges. The maximum donation is $1,800 per person or entity. With your help, I am hopeful that I will be able to clear my name and continue working for the people of District 9 and be that unshakeable voice my constituents so desperately need. I am deeply appreciative of your support; it means more to Del and me than you can imagine. With gratitude and unwavering commitment,
