LOS ANGELES (2UrbanGirls) – Los Angeles Councilman Curren Price has stepped down from his council committees and is headed “straight outta” his council seat after being named in a 10-count criminal complaint on June 14.

Several well-placed sources have emphatically stated that Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón was pressured into filing the public corruption charges at the behest of the federal government.
Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. loves football analogies, so here’s one.
“The feds have thrown the entire political structure a hail mary pass and hopefully they catch the notion that they need to ALL immediately update their annual Form 700s (political disclosures) ala Karen Bass style expeditiously,” said one political analyst.
Complaints have been filed against Inglewood Councilman Eloy Morales Jr. for his failure to disclose his outside income from Lee Andrews Group for several years.
It would also behoove Inglewood Councilwoman Gloria Gray to vacate her water board seat before she’s on the receiving end of a criminal complaint that Gascón could be forced to file on her.
Los Angeles City Council President Paul Kekorian has tapped CD 8 Councilman Marqueece Harris-Dawson to assume Price’s duties as Mayor Pro-Tem which requires a full vote if the council.
Harris-Dawson has allegedly reached out to a former council district candidate about discussing their possible appointment to Price’s seat once the council votes to suspend him.
JORGE NUNO
Jorge Nuno was endorsed by the Los Angeles Times over Price in 2017 but still lost to Price. Nuno went on to run for County Supervisor of the 2nd District and was also unsuccessful but became a close ally of Holly Mitchell who won the seat in 2020.
Nuno is a community activist who supported Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders and is well-known for hosting political events at The Big House on a wide range of issues. He has now ventured into the cannabis business and is quite successful.
DULCE VASQUEZ
Dulce Vasquez is busy scheduling meetings to also throw her name in the ring as a potential candidate. She recently received the endorsement of Asm. Reggie Jones-Sawyer to succeed him in the Assembly since he is termed out from running for the seat again.
KEEPING THE SEAT BLACK
REGGIE JONES-SAWYER
Jones-Sawyer is also mulling stepping down from his Assembly seat should he be appointed caretaker of Council District 9. He benefits from having homes in both Council Districts 9 and 10 although he recently announced his candidacy for CD 10.
MIKE DAVIS
Another possible contender is long-time Democrat Mike Davis who currently serves on LA’s Public Works Commission. Davis and Price have been longtime political foes with Davis unsuccessfully running against Price for Senate and CD 9 in 2013.
Both Jones-Sawyer and Davis are ready to lead from day one and would continue the momentum of having three Black councilmembers as former Council President Herb Wesson said was crucial during redistricting in 2012.
What does the City of Los Angeles need? Organizers or problem solvers?
What isn’t needed is someone out for personal gain but rather doing the work on behalf of the diverse population they represent.
What also isn’t needed is another sitting City Councilmember facing criminal charges, which could strike another member of the council any day based on the actions of José Huizar, Mark Ridley-Thomas, and Curren Price.
