GARDENA, Calif. – A motorist was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Gardena, police said Friday.
Officers were sent to 135th Street and Crenshaw Boulevard about 7:55 p.m. Thursday, said Lt. Chris Cuff of the Gardena Police Department.
“Upon arrival, Gardena PD units located a black Mercedes-Benz and a white Kia in the intersection with major collision damage,” Cuff said in a statement. “A preliminary investigation revealed the Kia was traveling northbound on Crenshaw Boulevard at a high rate of speed. The Kia collided with the black Mercedes, which was stopped at a red traffic signal.”
The driver of the Kia, whose name was withheld pending notification of relatives, died at a hospital, Cuff said. The other motorist was taken to a hospital for treatment in unknown condition.
