INGLEWOOD (2UG) – 2UrbanGirls is hearing there is a major shakeup transpiring in the quest to succeed Steve Bradford as the next Senator for Senate District 35.
Former Bradford District Director and congressional staffer Darryn Harris jumped out early as a candidate to replace the termed-out Senator. In the process, Harris gained the support of former Assemblywoman Autumn Burke who called him a “champion of LGBTQ” issues.
Now we are hearing Harris is considering dropping out of the race as Bradford is allegedly pledging his support to a former Compton councilmember.

Michelle Chambers is well-known in political circles and reminds this author of Asm. Tina McKinnor. A hard-working behind-the-scenes staffer with ambitions of becoming an elected official.
As a member of Asm. Mike Gipson’s staff, Chambers was well received throughout his district, particularly in the cities of Compton and Watts. She’s politically astute and has a record of working for other high-profile elected officials such as Rep. Diane Watson.
Chambers and McKinnor are women who were born to do the job but needed the opportunity to shine.
Chambers eventually ran against former Compton District 1 Councilwoman Janna Zurita and won.
Chambers never realized her full potential as an elected official as she was plagued with concerns she didn’t live in Compton, had issues with former Compton City Manager Cecil Rhambo and a public spat with former Compton Councilman Isaac Galvan, and then experienced the unexpected passing of her brother.
She abruptly resigned from her council seat after two years on the job.
It was rumored she took a job that would prevent her from serving but when the City Clerk position in Compton became vacant with the retirement of Alita Godwin, she reportedly put her name out there for consideration.
She is now alleged to be gearing up to run for Senate but is quietly racking up the support to assist with fundraising efforts.
A review of state filing records doesn’t indicate Chambers has opened a campaign committee but 2UrbanGirls has fielded phone calls from elected officials from around LA County saying the announcement is “imminent”.
In the meantime, we continue to hear that Bradford might make a run against Rep. Maxine Waters.

Oh, and lest I forgot, Michelle took credit from the officer, Frank Reynolds, who championed the memorial effort for the two police officers, Burrell and McDonald, killed in the line of duty in Compton. She also tried to take the name of Delores Zurita, who has a long history of civic service including running the senior meal program, off of Gonzales Park out of sheer spite for her political rival Janna Zurita. That petty move really pissed off natives and seniors knew Delore’s decades of history giving back to the community. Michelle then tried to maneuver her husband into a head position at VOA, Veterans of America, in Compton causing its leader, Craig Henry, to come to the city council meeting to blast her. Michelle also ran off then City Manager Cecil Rhambo who resigned after Michelle, after being elected to council, raged through city hall, throwing her weight and new found power around. All in all, leave Compton mess in Compton because hopefully there is a higher caliber of politician needed for the seat, and willingness to push marijuana shouldn’t be the deciding factor.
Michelle Chambers was a joke in the City of Compton. She left, inexplicably, two years into a four year term saying she was moving to Washington DC but she is still in the state two years later. Michelle did not represent her constituents and was only a third vote for failed former Mayor Aja Brown. The two together were combative and bullying on the council to get their way, yet the city in their wake was ranked dead last financially by both the State Controller and State Auditor out of 482 cities, a waste of time. Michelle angered her district constituents voting against them on several major issues including the Olson housing project where rumors swirl she stepped down to wait a year to get a house for her vote. She violated city residency being from Inglewood while claiming several different addresses in Compton even against longtime homeowners and seniors of a large block club. She took credit for the Dodger Dream Fields built in Compton were actually brokered by her predecessor Janna Zurita. She claimed involvement in the dismantling of the Sativa Water Agency taking credit from the activist Martha Barajas actually led the successful community fight against brown water. Michelle lived in a gated town house community in Inglewood. Ask her neighbors, HOA, security guards and Jasper Jackson, a candidate took her to court over the matter, yet the rigged LA County Public Integrity group found otherwise. Right. Nothing goes untouched by corruption in Compton, LA and LA County these days. Save your vote. Leave “Compton mess” in Compton, meaning Michelle Chambers, where she can get away with such a farce. She is a marijuana candidate looking to leverage up until they can revisit the issue went defeated three to one in Compton. A smile and the gift of gab does not an effective politician for the people make. And if that is not enough, check the local ***** house.
COMPTON Citizens will campaign to keep her out of office, she was lousy as a councilperson, and I’m sure she’ll be equally as lousy as a state senator
