LOS ANGELES – A crash involving a garbage truck and another vehicle on the Harbor (110) Freeway in the south Los Angeles area Friday left two people injured and sent debris tumbling into a nearby neighborhood.
Paramedics were sent to the northbound 110 Freeway at Manchester Avenue about 2:20 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The trash truck hit a sound wall and caught fire, and the impact sent debris and chunks of cement onto the street near the freeway, damaging parked cars, according to reports from the scene.
A resident of the area, identified only as Patrick, told ABC7 that crashes on the freeway are commonplace, but this one was different.
“It was crazy,” Patrick said. “I ain’t never felt and heard a car crash as bad … When it hit, you would’ve thought that it was tumbling from the street … about a good 30 feet, just tumbling. And I could feel the rumble.”
No one on the street level was injured, but the driver of the garbage truck and the other vehicle were transported for hospital treatment of unspecified injuries, ABC7 reported.
The circumstances of the crash were under investigation.
