INGLEWOOD (2UG) – Former Inglewood Assemblywoman Autumn Burke has filed her intent to run for State Senate District 35 to succeed outgoing Sen. Steve Bradford.
Burke initially endorsed Daryn Harris for the seat but has filed papers to be his challenger.
It’s an honor to earn the endorsement of former Assemblymember @autumnrburke. I’m so grateful to have the support of such an effective legislator & leader in our communities.

Burke announced her resignation in January 2022 because “I feel it is of the utmost importance that I have the flexibility and ability to spend more time with my family.”
“Serving as your representative has been a true privilege — one that I have taken seriously,” Burke, D-Marina del Rey, wrote. “This has been one of the hardest decisions of my life.”
During her term as Assemblywoman, Burke had struggles getting key legislation passed for the city of Inglewood, and it was left up to Bradford and former Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove to carry the bill to the finish line.
Burke abruptly left the seat before her term ended and was succeeded by her former staffer Tina McKinnor.
Since leaving the Assembly, Burke hasn’t strayed too far from politics after joining the high-powered firm Axiom, who made the news when they were seen dining with Gov. Gavin Newsom at the height of the COVID pandemic. She also got married.
Burke would potentially face Hawthorne Councilman Alex Monteiro, Harris, Pace News publisher Gloria Zurveen and Jennifer Trichelle-Marie Williams who have all filed their intent to run according to state records.
There is also widespread discussion that former Compton Councilwoman Michelle Chambers will file to run for the seat as well with the support of Bradford and County Supervisor Holly J. Mitchell.
