COMPTON (2UG) – Although 2026 is a ways off, it hasn’t stopped a member of the Compton City Council from exploring a potential run for mayor of Hub City.

Andre Spicer is a well-known community activist turned elected official who has formally opened the “Spicer for Mayor 2026” campaign committee to begin raising money.

He would potentially run against Mayor Emma Sharif, should she choose to run for re-election, in a contest that will test the strength of whether the “old guard” (senior citizens) continue to hold power over the city’s elections or will the millennials step up and let their voices be heard that they are tired of the status quo?
Residents trek to 205 N. Willowbrook to attend the weekly city council meetings to complain about the conditions of the city to no avail.
“Emma is the first mayor in the city’s history to have literally handpicked the entire council and still struggles to get things done,” said a former Compton elected official. “Spicer has snagged two votes from her and is moving at warp speed to make an imprint in the 2nd District.”
Spicer ran against the then incumbent Isaac Galvan and lost the 2021 General Election by one vote. A judge overturned the election the following year after it was alleged election fraud had taken place.
Spicer attended the opening of the Plenty vertical farm on May 19 and stated he was proud of his work.
“This opening is amazing for the community because the products are being sold in the Compton Walmart and Compton residents are working here,” said Spicer. “It’s a win for everyone.”
The next project he is working on is the resurfacing of the basketball courts at Wilson Park through an agreement with sports drink company BodyArmor that the council approved May 16.
“The community is going to be amazed at how it’s going to look,” said Spicer.
The city is definitely at a crossroads with dozens of open positions and a lot of work to be done to restore the city to its former glory.
“The city is a total disaster,” said James Hayes during the May 16 meeting.
Is it finally time to pass the baton to the next generation?

Utter nonsense. We are still awaiting the civil case appeal and criminal trial results may show Spicer is an imposter in the seat.,we definitely already know that many have come before council to say he was a known drug dealer. As for he is moving at warp speed, more nonsense. The city does work for votes on council it likes and not for those like Galvan put in for the work yet nothing was permitted be done. Then the PR machine tried to call him “The Regulator” shutting down illegal marijuana shops in Compton. Utter PR nonsense because others joked the only thing he was regulating is how much drugs with all the videos circulating around the city showing him taking and praising marijuana use. Then there is the utterly stupid question whether it is time for millennials to take over the city. What was former failed Mayor Aja Brown then that left the city last in the state, financially. A millennial. Voted in by who? Seniors. So been there tried that already. Let’s just find intelligent, competent, capable and experienced candidates, not PR masters. For Spicer once uttered that “the infrastructure is like the deficit, they are sort of the same thing.” Nope, not it, just like when they brought up collective bargaining had him staring into space like a deer caught in the headlights. So stop, please. We have had too many smiling faces in Compton can’t get the job done. An$ Spicer can host events, take orders, fake PR stories, kiss babies but not turn this city around. Know the difference or you will fall for another fake PR made candidate will dupe you like Aja Brown already did for eight straight years.
