GARDENA, Calif. – A man shot to death while driving in Gardena was publicly identified Saturday.
Javier Hernandez was a 29-year-old resident of Gardena, according to the coroner’s office.
The shooting was reported at 10:53 p.m. Sunday in the 14800 block of Chadron Avenue, according to the Sheriff’s Information Bureau.
Homicide investigators learned at the scene that Hernandez was driving a white Toyota Corolla northbound on Chadron when he passed a group of four or five people standing on the west side of the street who began shooting at him, Lt. Hugo Reynaga said.
“The victim sped off and crashed into multiple parked vehicles near the 14700 block of Chadron Avenue,” Reynaga said. Hernandez suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body.
Paramedics rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, sheriff’s officials said.
