Lynwood Councilmember José Solache has announced his candidacy for State Assembly through an early morning social media post. He has also picked up the endorsement of California State Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon.
“I am deeply honored that our Assemblymember, Speaker Anthony Rendon, is supporting my campaign to succeed him in the State Assembly. No one can fill his shoes, but I am going to do my best to follow in his footsteps,” said Solache.
Bound by term limits, Rendon’s reign over the state assembly will end next year. Last year there was a kerfuffle with many of his colleagues seeking to support someone else as speaker but were allegedly threatened with being removed from assembly committees if they went against Rendon.

“A lot of things have changed in the last 20 years, but José Solache’s passion for helping people has remained a constant. As a School Board Member, City Councilmember, and Mayor, José has dedicated himself to serving our communities. I’ve worked closely with José as we have fought to fully fund schools, reduce homelessness, create more good-paying jobs, and ensure every local resident has clean and safe drinking water. I believe in José Solache’s dedication to our Gateway Cities and Southeast L.A. County communities, and I believe that he is the best candidate to succeed me in the State Assembly.”
Solache has served as a Mayor, Mayor Pro-Tem, and Councilmember in the city of Lynwood since 2013. In this role, he’s worked to recruit new job-creating employers to the city, build new parks, make City Hall more transparent, and expand youth programs.
Prior to his service in city government, Solache served for three terms on the Lynwood Unified School District’s Board of Education. The district educates over 15,000 local students and Solache served as Board President three times. His election to the school board at the age of 23 made him one of the youngest elected leaders in L.A. County.
Solache grew up in Lynwood and attended local public schools. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies from California State University, Dominguez Hills. While pursuing his undergraduate degree, he served two terms as Student Body President.
Solache is the President and CEO of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce. Lakewood is the largest city in AD 62.
Assembly District 62 includes all or part of the cities of Bellflower, Huntington Park, Lakewood, Lynwood, Maywood, Paramount, South Gate, and Walnut Park. Democrats outnumber Republicans in the 62nd District by 42%.
