Morningside High School and community members from the Inglewood Coalition for Educational Equity engaged on March 4.
Scholars from Morningside High School joined forces with the Inglewood Coalition for Educational Equity for a community clean-up event that was a huge success. The scholars are a part of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc.’s Omicron Rho Zeta Archonette Club, which is a Youth Auxiliary group led by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc. The group spent several hours picking up trash around Morningside High and on the school grounds.
Zeta Phi Beta has been doing community service work since 1920 but particularly the Omicron Rho Zeta chapter has been working with the Archonette youth since 1993. This year they celebrate their 30th Anniversary making an impact in the community of Inglewood.
Inglewood Archonette Advisor, Danielle Munguia has worked diligently to mentor these young women and understands the importance of giving back.
“We think it’s important to equally pour into the communities that have invested in us,” said Munguia.
The Inglewood Coalition for Educational Equity was founded by Fre’Drisha “Shá” Dixon, John Hughes, Dr. Zyra McCloud, Reina Carillo, Ronald Gomez, Miya Walker, and Emily Dixon.
“We formed this coalition to create a safe space for Inglewood residents to learn about the issues the Inglewood Unified School District is facing and fight for the changes that our scholars deserve,” said Dixon. “We meet every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month and welcome anyone who wants to help regain local control of our district and end receivership.”
