The home of the Los Angeles Chargers was awarded with games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. It has now been revealed that doing so may be physically impossible.
When Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium was awarded with hosting games for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, most of L.A. and the Chargers fanbase rejoiced. A new report, however, has made it seem like an impossible dream.
The luxurious 70,240-seat stadium opened in 2020, and no one batted an eye when they heard the venue was chosen over other arenas around the country. With co-host countries Mexico and Canada also partaking.
According to a report by The Times, SoFi Stadium is too narrow to host a World Cup game. In fact, the field would allegedly have to be widened up to 63 feet to satisfy FIFA regulations.
