The City of Inglewood has come under fire for a viral video taken Mar. 4 showing two Code Enforcement officers harassing a little girl and her mother for selling girl scout cookies as part of the 111-year-old organization’s signature fundraiser.
“These code enforcement officers were enforcing all sales on the public right of way including hot dog and fruit vendors,” wrote the mayor on social media. “If you listen they are merely asking the parent to move the stand off the sidewalk.”
The video shows a fruit vendor directly across the street from the girl scout with a table set up selling fruit who the officers weren’t bothering.
The mayor then called comments directed at the code enforcement officers misogynistic as if he’s a poster child on how to treat women.
The situation happened on Arbor Vitae Street blocks from the entrance to Hollywood Park who was hosting Rolling Loud 2023.
Inglewood Councilwoman Dionne Faulk held a Town Hall meeting on March 1 with the mayor in attendance who kicked off the meeting with his usual speech.
“He was there praising the girl scouts for returning to Inglewood despite the fact they have no permanent meeting place in the city,” said Marvin McCoy, who was in attendance.
According to sources in the Girl Scouts organization they are forced to work with the Parks & Recreation department to find meeting space considering their building on LaBrea is only used for programs, not for the troops to meet.
The Girl Scouts were victims of eminent domain decades ago when they were forced out of their building to make way for what we now know as City Hall. They were moved to a building in Centinela Park that was torn down and replaced with a skatepark.
According to the 2020 census data, the city’s population is 49% Latino and 40% Black.
On September 17, 2018, former Governor Jerry Brown signed Senate Bill 946, which is also known as the Safe Sidewalk Vending Act. This law ends the criminalization of sidewalk vending in California and allows local authorities to adopt non-criminal laws to protect public health, safety, and welfare.
The Safe Sidewalk Vending Act, or SB 946, which requires cities and counties to develop their own local rules when regulating street vendors.
The City of Los Angeles adopted street vending regulations in 2018 to assist community members with earning a living by selling items on city sidewalks.
Inglewood has a bustling and growing sports and entertainment district that has caused mass disruption to the resident’s lives since the approval and opening of SoFi Stadium.
The city is razor focused on raising billions of dollars to pay for a train to drive 1.6 miles through the heart of the City while jamming up residents selling $5 boxes of cookies or $5 hot dogs.
Where are this council’s priorities?

Perhaps we should take up a collection buy the Mayor a dictionary and have his council buddies show the Mayor how to use a dictionary or failing that tell him not to use words he does not understand.
“Misogynistic” refers to hatred for women . It sounds as perhaps he does not realize the “Girls Scout” is a little woman, we presume the mommy is a woman who community members defended. Yes, the code enforcement officers were women acting like bullies. The persons recording/ reporting the incident also appear to be women…. when someone/anyone acts like a bully their behavior should be noted so it does not happen again.
None of us are unaware that women can act just as foolishly as men, but as far as we know none of those involved has choked their wife or told a community member to go choke herself as public records show the Mayor has been reprimanded for.
The proper response should have been a polite apology to the Individual Girl Scout and her mother, and a gracious but definite comment that we appreciate employees attempting to do the job for which they were poorly trained and who unfortunately did not exercise wisdom.
When looking for a misogynist perhaps whoever buys the dictionary should also buy the Mayor a hand mirror.
