GARDENA, Calif. – County authorities Wednesday identified a 49-year-old man who was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Gardena.

Gardena Police Department officers responded to the intersection of Vermont and Rosecrans avenues around 2:50 a.m. Friday and found two vehicles with major collision damage in the center median of Vermont Avenue, Traffic Bureau Investigator Jose Zamudio said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department firefighters arrived at the scene and rendered medical aid, Zamudio said.
Tomas Ramirez Pedro, who authorities said was driving a Honda, was identified as the victim of the crash, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.
A preliminary investigation determined that Ramirez was driving southbound on Vermont Avenue and a Volkswagen was being driven eastbound on Rosecrans Avenue when the crash occurred.
Ramirez was pronounced dead at the scene, Zamudio said.
According to witnesses at the scene, one of the vehicles was traveling at a high rate of speed and ran a red light before the crash.
The collision closed all southbound lanes of Vermont Avenue in the vicinity of the collision for several hours.
Anyone with information about the collision is encouraged to call Zamudio at 310-217-6189.
