LOS ANGELES – A motorist killed when his vehicle went off a bridge in Boyle Heights and landed on its roof on the Golden State (5) Freeway was publicly identified Monday.
Steven De Vone was 56 years old, according to the coroner’s office. His city of residence was not available.
The crash occurred at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday on the southbound Golden State Freeway at Whittier Boulevard, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The vehicle “may have come off an overcrossing onto the freeway,” the CHP said.
The crash triggered a Sigalert that closed four lanes of the southbound freeway until 4:24 a.m.
De Vone was pronounced dead at the scene, the coroner’s office said. No other injuries were reported.
