CHINO HILLS, Calif. – Four were killed in a wrong-way driver crash in Chino Hills early Sunday morning, according to authorities.

CHP received multiple 911 calls about a wrong-way driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on the 71 freeway at Central Ave. around 2:30 a.m.
Additional 911 calls were received of a 4 to 5-vehicle traffic collision with one vehicle on fire and people trapped inside on the southbound, 71 freeway at Chino Hills Parkway.
An SGT from the California Highway Patrol Rancho Cucamonga station was the first on the scene and attempted to put out the fire and saved occupants inside the vehicle. The SGT wasn’t able to get to the occupants inside the car fire due to the car being fully engulfed.

A total of four people were pronounced dead at the scene by firefighters and paramedics. One person was transported to a local hospital in an unknown condition.
Their identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
