SANTA ANA, Calif. – A man was struck and fatally injured Monday morning in a hit-and-run accident in Santa Ana and a suspect was later arrested, authorities said.
The pedestrian was struck by a vehicle around 3:20 a.m. at the intersection of First and Figueroa streets, according to the Santa Ana Police Department. A preliminary investigation revealed that the man was in the eastbound lanes of First Street and the vehicle was traveling east when it struck the victim, then fled the scene.
Personnel from the Orange County Fire Authority responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim’s name was withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Detectives later located the vehicle parked at a residence and took the driver into custody. Police said alcohol “appears to be a factor in the collision.”
