Newly appointed County Administrator James Morris already has his hands full in issues with the school district that directly impacts enrollment. In fact, the incidents that transpired yesterday (Feb. 9) are enough to make parents want to pull their children out immediately.
It was first brought to our attention that several fights broke out at Inglewood High School that was gang-related. Staff shares that this is an ongoing problem and the district is not doing enough to return staffing levels in its police department to normal levels since two former officers were found to be pulling double duty guarding illegal cannabis grow operations while on the clock.
Security is so relaxed at the school that an outside person was able to make it onto campus with a knife.
Then around 5 p.m., we received a text message that Parent Elementary School was on lockdown due to a child bringing what was reported as a gun to the after-school program. The district acknowledges it wasn’t a gun but in fact a BB gun.
How are the schools in Inglewood this unsafe when unauthorized metal objects are making their way onto the school campus?
Concerned parents are holding a rally on Tuesday, Feb. 14 over at Worthington Elementary School to protest its closure, meanwhile, the district is in full disarray and continues its trajectory of losing another 500 students at the end of this year.
Former Inglewood police captain Martin Sissac was hired as the chief of police for the district. He also dabbles on the side as an affordable housing developer.
He did not provide any public comments on the matter or what safety protocols will be implemented as a result of yesterday’s ruckus but the elementary school principal sent this out.
Are your children currently attending a school in the district? Does your child feel safe?
