LONG BEACH, Calif. – An apartment fire in Long Beach early Wednesday left a man dead, authorities said.
The fire, reported about 3:30 a.m. in the 1200 block of Walnut Avenue, was quickly extinguished, according to the Long Beach Fire Department.
According to reports the man was rescued from a second-floor unit at the Chez Bon Guest Home, an assisted living facility.
The fire was maintained to a single unit, and the Red Cross also responded to help at least one other person who had been displaced, LBFD spokesperson Jack Crabtree said.
At this time, it is not clear what started the fire.
Information on the identity of the man, described as “elderly,” was not immediately available, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
