SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. – A 25-year-old man died Saturday when his car drifted off the Ventura (101) Freeway near Sherman Oaks and hit a tree and a guardrail.
The crash was reported at 1:11 a.m. on the northbound Ventura Freeway at Coldwater Canyon Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol Officer A. Viramontes, who investigated at the scene.
Diego Armando Ramos Duarte was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. Preliminary information indicated his city of residence was Van Nuys.
The CHP’s preliminary investigation revealed a silver 2014 Ford Mustang was northbound on the Ventura Freeway at an unknown speed. “For an unknown reason, the driver of the Ford allowed the vehicle to drift onto the right shoulder of the freeway and down the tree-lined embankment,” Viramontes said. “The left front of the vehicle collided with a tree, which caused the vehicle to overturn. The vehicle then collided with a metal guard rail located on the US-101 northbound on-ramp from Coldwater Canyon Avenue.”
The CHP’s investigation continued, the officer said.
