LOS ANGELES – Police shut down a street takeover outside the Beverly Center, where approximately 500 people gathered to watch Saturday night, it was reported Sunday.
The takeover occurred at about 10 p.m. Saturday at La Cienega Boulevard and West Third Street. Video aired by ABC7 showed a vehicle doing “donuts” near flames in an intersection. The station cited police in reporting that a Christmas tree was set on fire.
According to social media accounts, there were multiple street takeovers around South Los Angeles.

The increase in takeovers and how the Los Angeles Police Department responds will surely come up during the Jan. 10 Police Commission meeting as Chief Michael Moore has formally submitted his request for an additional five-year term.
Two of the five members of the commission have publicly expressed their support of Moore. All of the current members were appointed by former Mayor Eric Garcetti.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass hasn’t indicated she’s looking to replace Chief Michel Moore, but she has vowed to set “clear goals and expectations” for him and the city’s Police Commission. She has given no indication she is looking to replace the commission members either.
