The deadline has been extended for our third annual journalism contest! The deadline to submit your entry is now Monday, February 6, 2023, at 5 p.m. Finalists will be announced in mid-March and winners will be announced at our Journalism Awards Reception on March 29.
This contest highlights the best California politics and policy journalism of 2022 and we’d love your help getting the word out! If you read, saw or heard great journalism in the past year, please reach out to the reporter to suggest they apply. This would be a great way to create a connection and support a journalist who performed painstaking work in a tough year.
Qualified entries of work must be published in 2022 and must center on state politics and policy. Entries can span journalistic mediums, except where noted otherwise. Work completed in any language can be submitted, provided the entrant includes an English-language translation.
This year’s contest has 23 categories, with special recognition given to Journalist of the Year, Impact in Journalism, and Courage in Journalism. These awards are given to an individual or team of journalists whose work has had a substantial impact on the state.
Submissions for multiple categories are encouraged. Entries cost $20 for SPC members and $25 for nonmembers. If you enter in multiple categories, you will be charged the cost of entry per category.
Our 3rd Annual Journalism Awards Reception, where we will announce the winners of our contest honoring the best California politics and policy journalism of 2022, is taking place on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at The Mix.
Tickets include two drinks and heavy hors d’Oeuvres.
All proceeds from the event benefit the Sacramento Press Club’s mission of awarding more than $30,000 in scholarships annually to students pursuing journalism.
