PLACENTIA, Calif. – A 24-year-old Santa Ana man is in police custody Thursday on suspicion of driving under the influence after a two-vehicle crash that killed two adults and a 10-year-old girl in Placentia.
Placentia Police Department officers responded at 8:45 p.m. Wednesday to the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and South Melrose Street where they learned the driver of a black Honda Civic allegedly ran a red light and slammed into a church van carrying several people, Fox 11 reported.
Many of the van’s passengers involved in the crash were ejected and injured or killed.
KTLA 5 reported a man and a woman were pronounced dead at the scene and the girl died on the way to a hospital.
In addition to the victims, eight people were injured in the crash, many in critical condition.
The suspect was taken into custody at the scene.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
