Santana receives first Labor endorsement in the race for Los Angeles City Council CD 6

LOS ANGELES  – Today, the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT) District Council 36 and its 10 Locals (Local Union 52, Local Union 86, Local Union 510, Local Union 636, Local Union 831, Local Union 1036, Local Union 1136, Local Union 1247, Local Union 1399, and Local Union 1991) endorsed Marco Santana for Los Angeles City Council.  Santana is running in the April 4th special election to fill the seat left vacant with the resignation of Council President, Nury Martinez.

“We’re proud to endorse Marco Santana for Los Angeles City Council – District 6,” said Robert Smith, Political Director for IUPAT District Council 36. “A true son of labor, Marco will stand side-by-side with our city’s working families and fight for worker justice and good union jobs.”

“I’m incredibly proud of this endorsement,” stated Santana.  “This is the union I grew up in as a child.  I’ll never forget attending union meetings with my dad and being able to witness firsthand the power of the labor movement and the opportunities this union created for him and our family.  I’m truly honored and grateful.”

IUPAT District Council 36 and its Locals represent workers in the Finishing Trades as industrial and commercial painters, drywall finishers, wall coverers, glaziers, glass workers, floor covering installers, sign makers, display workers, convention and show decorators, and much more.  IUPAT is recognized as one of the most active unions in the labor movement with its members helping to shape their communities through a commitment to service, fighting for workers’ rights, and political mobilization.
