FRESNO, Calif. – The IRS has announced that California residents and businesses have until May 15 to file their 2022 tax returns if they live in a County under a federal emergency declaration.
58 counties in California qualify, including Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, and Ventura Counties.
Taxpayers automatically qualify based on their address on file and if and when other counties are added, they will also qualify for the extension.
Should the IRS send you a penalty notice saying you missed the deadline, you are advised to call the number on the notice to have the penalty erased.
Penalties are typically applied if you file after the April 15 deadline.
