INGLEWOOD, Calif. (2UrbanGirls) – Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. provided an early morning update on the health of Chief of Police Mark Fronterotta in a Sunday morning email.

“Good morning. Chief is well. Sitting up, went for a walk around the ICU. Conversing. Gets tired but great progress. Still waiting for word about moving out of ICU. The family and Chief appreciate all of your care and sentiments.” wrote Butts.
Butts responded to Fronterotta’s health situation by elevating Cpt. Cardell Hurt to Acting Chief.

Butts bypassed Deputy Chief Eddie Ridens Jr., Cpt. Mark Fried, and Cpt. Marie Dibernardo to appont Hurt.
The last Black Inglewood police chief was Jacqueline Seabrooks, who left the department in 2012 after reportedly clashing with Butts.
Speculation is mounting that Fronterotta will medically retire.
Who will Butts make his permanent replacement?

I have it on good authority that former Chief Seabrooks did not clash with Mayor Butts. She left Inglewood a year into the Mayor’s first term because she wanted to return to the agency where she grew up professionally. Stop with the negative inferences and focus on what is happening with the current Chief’s health and the impact of that on the Police Department.
It’s time to look to the future of the department. It’s in turmoil with all of the departures over the last three years along with the struggle to recruit. The chief is getting better but considering the trauma he just went through it’s highly unlikely he returns. He already had health issues prior to this.
