INGLEWOOD, Calif. (2UrbanGirls) – Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. should resign from his position effective immediately because according to his answer to his ex-aide’s request for a restraining order, the two are married.
Butts’ ego would never allow for him to resign but he should take this weekend and take a long, hard look in the mirror because as some would say, his house of cards is crumbling.
How embarrassing that he was caught in ANOTHER lie about being served a restraining order by his ex-aide Melanie McDade. He argued to this blog and radio station KBLA that a restraining order was not in place, which according to a minute order published to the court’s website Jan. 12 is factually correct.
What was being reported by 2UrbanGirls and Inglewood mayoral candidate Fredrisha “Sha” Dixon was Butts was served with a summons to appear on Jan. 12 and he was there. With a taxpayer-funded lawyer, and a taxpayer-funded bodyguard who drives him around in a taxpayer-funded city vehicle.

Inglewood taxpayers have paid out millions in attorney’s fees related to Butts’ personal behavior due to his commandeering the city manager’s position and wielding authority over decisions that he has no business with. He should not be in a City-owned vehicle being driven by a member of the emergency services department. He should be in one of the many cars he personally owns and taking the auto allowance taxpayers provide him with.

McDade filed her request on Oct. 13 which was 66 pages long. A 178-page declaration was filed by Mira Hashmall, with the firm Miller Barondess on Jan. 9 that alludes to a marriage between the two. On the form Butts said he did not agree with the orders requested which included a “stay away” order.

The court proceedings ran until about 4:30 p.m. and is scheduled to continue on Jan. 20 at 8:30 a.m.
By the time he made it back to Inglewood, he was firing off an email that Chief of Police Mark Fronterotta is fighting for his life in an undisclosed hospital’s ICU. Instead of promoting the deputy chief to Acting Chief, Butts promoted Cpt. Cardell Hurt to the post.
This has come at the worst time for Butts and the council as they are in the final stages of securing funding for the Inglewood Transit Connector.
The mayor has said time and time again that “investors don’t invest in unstable governments” and Inglewood is shaky AF right now.
If McDade is in fact allowed a permanent restraining order against the mayor that allows her to call the police on him anytime he’s within X number of feet from her. He can’t shut down her employment opportunities and no more checking under her car for leaks.
The next mayor would ideally be Alex Padilla and our next Chief of Police should be Cardell Hurt. We also have a runoff election in two months between George Dotson and Gloria Gray that the upheaval could impact.
They are both well-liked by Inglewood residents, have a history in the City to continue the path we are on and with the police department in full recruitment mode they need to present a united front for the NEW INGLEWOOD to encourage men and women to apply and most importantly STAY.
I’m sorry Mayor Butts but your time is up.

Yes Butts should resign as should all those he brought to this dance and who helped destroy our community . That our small business owners are being eminent domained out of their businesses and zoning changes will destroy the quality of life for residents even beyond the traffic and air quality issues which this group of self serving elected have created.. Residents maybe better served by a completely different group of elected , community minded, Brown Act Followers will be needed to restore confidence in elected..
Many would prefer indictments followed by conviction and prison time but for now resignations across the dias has a very nice ring.
No it is not enough that George and Alex admittedthey May have different personal opinions but voted with Jimmy toplease his want of unanimous votes.
I man or woman who was willing to give his voice to please Jimmy would always give his vote (our quality of life) for his personal gain (status, position, or photo op)
I agree that butts needs to go, but I disagree that Alex Padilla should replace him. Padilla is Butts Lite, that while city council needs to go
I agree
You are right of course that Butts needs to go, but you’re much too late in saying so and your assessment of him and the situation is lacking. This guy is and has been crooked and corrupt for long before he became mayor of Inglewood. He was like this when he was chief of police in Santa Monica! Judges in the court system there used to talk about him behind his back, laugh about him behind his back, but wouldn’t come out and confront the issue head on. He corrupted the SMPD and he’s doing and done the same in Inglewood. He shouldn’t only resign, he should be indicted for fraud and other crimes. Why this man has been allowed to get away with his ongoing corruption without any consequences is beyond me. There must be evidence somewhere with all the stuff he pulls, if anyone would look into it! We were glad he left Santa Monica. He’s Inglewood’s problem now, and has been ever since he took over the city!
You must be new here. Been writing about him for the last decade.
