ORANGE, Calif. – Authorities are seeking a group of women who stole a safe from a supermarket in the city of Orange.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. on Dec. 17 at Produce World, in the City of Orange, just outside Santa Ana, southeast of Los Angeles, according to police.
Video shows the women distracting employees of a family-owned grocery store to steal a safe containing about $9,000.
Surveillance video released by the Orange Police Department shows a group of five women carrying out the so-called distraction robbery. They posed several questions to employees to distract them, while two of the women stole the safe from the back of the store.
“This is heartbreaking, especially during this holiday season. I hope these women are caught, jailed, and held to answer for their felonious crimes,” Orange Police Chief Dan Adams said in a statement.
Two suspects can be seen putting the safe into a cart and covering it with fabric similar to their headscarves. They can be seen wheeling the safe out the front of the store undetected.
Police are asking anyone with information to come forward or submit an anonymous tip.
