LONG BEACH, Calif. – A man was struck by a vehicle and killed in Long Beach Wednesday.
The collision was reported at about 3:20 a.m. in the area of East Seventh Street and Rose Avenue, near Luther Burbank Elementary School, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Authorities responding to the scene located the man lying in the westbound lanes of Seventh Street and paramedics pronounced him dead. His name was withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
An investigation into the collision revealed the man was crossing in the intersection when a 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer traveling westbound on Seventh Street struck him, according to the LBPD.
The 23-year-old driver of the Mistubishi remained on the scene and cooperated with authorities. Neither distracted driving nor impaired driving appeared to be factored in the crash, though speed is being investigated as a possible factor, according to the LBPD.
