Students planning to attend college beginning in the 2023-2024 academic year are encouraged to apply for financial aid now to get cash for college, even if they think they may not be eligible. Research shows that while hundreds of thousands of California’s community college students are eligible for federal Pell Grants (worth up to $6,895.00 each), many do not apply. Depending on the type of grant a student receives, the money can be used for college enrollment fees, books, and supplies.
Financial aid, in the form of grants, work-study, and low-interest loans, is available to those who qualify. Eligibility requirements include that you are a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen. For more information please visit https://studentaid.gov/understand-aid/eligibility.
The first step in applying for student aid is to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the California Dream Act Application (CADAA) for AB 540 students/Dreamers. It is important that students apply as early as possible to receive financial aid for the fall 2023 semester, and to have the best chance of receiving both institutional and federal aid.
When applying, you will be asked to enter a school code for the college you wish to attend and receive financial aid.
- For the FAFSA, visit www.studentaid.gov and use Compton College code 042817.
- On the CADAA, visit https://dream.csac.ca.gov and use Compton College code 04281700.
The FAFSA and CADAA open on October 1 every year and remain open until the end of June for the upcoming academic year. (Ex. winter/spring 2023 students would complete a 2022-2023 application and students enrolling in summer/fall 2023 classes would use the 2023-2024 application.)
Compton College’s Financial Aid Office conducts a variety of online workshops via Zoom to assist students with the financial aid application process and answer questions.
