LOS ANGELES- A woman was fatally shot in the Chesterfield Square neighborhood of South Los Angeles in a car-to-car shooting, and police Tuesday sought the public’s help to solve the crime.
The shooting occurred about 11:50 p.m. Monday near Slauson and Western avenues.
Witnesses told police one or more suspects in a sedan chased a Lexus SUV in which the victim was riding in the back seat, and several shots were fired at the SUV, mortally wounding the woman.
The driver of the SUV then drove to St. Andrews Place and Slauson Avenue and crashed into a fire hydrant. The shooting victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her name was withheld by authorities, pending notification of her next of kin, however, her family identified her to reporters as 30-year-old Brianna Bailey. Two other women in the SUV were uninjured.
According to reports from the scene, the women were returning from having dinner when the shooting occurred.
“She did not deserve this — did not deserve this,” Bailey’s cousin, Katrina Taylor, told KTLA5. “A mother of three beautiful children …”
