LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva released a statement on the civilian oversight commissions attempt to influence the upcoming Nov. 8 election with discussions of allegations surrounding deputy gangs that were suspended in order to re-elect his predecessor.
In early 2019 County Counsel admitted publicly they suspended their investigation of deputy gangs so as to not influence the outcome of the 2018 sheriff elections. In 2022 it is now obvious the county is doing the exact opposite, attempting to weaponize COC and OIG investigations as a means to influence the outcome of the 2022 sheriff elections.
On April 22, 2022, Sheriff Alex Villanueva spoke under oath about deputy cliques and subgroups with the Office of the Inspector General (OIG). The OIG still had more questions after the mutually agreed upon time had expired, so Sheriff Villanueva graciously offered to return and cleared his schedule. A few days before the second scheduled session, the OIG unexpectedly cancelled and declined efforts to reschedule.
