POMONA, Calif. – A man was killed Sunday morning when the car he was driving crashed into a freight train in Pomona.
The crash occurred just after 2 a.m. on Palomares Street north of First Street, according to a Pomona Police Department press release.
Arriving officers discovered a sedan had apparently broadsided a moving Union Pacific Railroad train at a high rate of speed, police said.
Los Angeles County firefighters pronounced the man dead at the scene, police said.
It was not known whether drugs and/or alcohol played a role in the crash, police said. Union Pacific was cooperating with the investigation which shut down Palomares Street between First Street and Commercial Street.
