Dear 2UrbanGirls,
I have a few gripes with Gloria Gray and her “leadership”.
First, she’s on the November ballot for TWO open seats: her current water board seat and the Inglewood city council and board actions on the upcoming West Basin agenda indicate she is leveraging her current position to campaign.
Secondly, West Basin serves 17 cities, which are all incorporated. This week’s agenda includes a $10,000 sponsorship of the Taste of Soul held in Los Angeles. A city they don’t provide service to. The report details previously spending $5000 on the event but this year 1/5 of the agency’s total $55,000 sponsorship dollars for the 2022-2023 fiscal year are going to ONE entity.
If you look at the spreadsheet attached to the agenda, sponsorships usually range between $750 – $3000 with the most going towards a water conference. An event in Hermosa Beach, where we actually provide service, is only getting $1000. This is nothing but money being paid to promote Gray to voters.
You would think the board would have learned from past mistakes on their spending. She keeps raising our water rates and the pipes still break. Why would anyone want her for another term for anything?
Finally, watch this West Basin meeting from Aug. 3. You can tell this group is not all there. Gloria Gray doesn’t understand the law and does not want to meet in person any time soon. Listen to comments until the end when another board member says he’s in a rehab place for up to five months!
If she doesn’t want to meet in person to keep the public out it sounds like the same thing you are reporting on in Inglewood with your council members keeping residents out of council chambers.
What are these people afraid of?
