HUNTINGTON HARBOUR, Calif. – Armed robbers exchanged gunfire Saturday with the owner of a Huntington Harbour Mall jewelry store before fleeing in two vehicles and crashing one, leading to the arrest of a juvenile.
The drama unfolded about 4 p.m. at the jewelry store at Algonquin Street and Davenport Drive, the Huntington Beach Department reported on Twitter.
Police said an unknown number of suspects forcibly entered a business with weapons and “an exchange of gunfire occurred as the store owner defended himself.”
The store owner was not injured, but a customer suffered minor lacerations from broken glass, the department reported on its Facebook page.
The suspects fled in two vehicles onto the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway. It was unclear if they stole any merchandise.
One of the vehicles was located by police in nearby Los Alamitos, where it crashed, prompting several suspects to flee, according to Huntington Beach police.
“After a search of the area, a male juvenile was located and detained,” the police department said in a tweet.
A directory of shops at Huntington Harbour Mall indicates the store is named Isabella’s Jewelry.
