LOS ANGELES – A 60-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run collision in Whittier was homeless, authorities said Sunday.
He was identified as 60-year-old Alberto Northrup, according to the coroner’s office.
California Highway Patrol officers were called just before 11:20 p.m. Thursday to the area of 6506 Whittier Blvd. on reports of a crash and found the man lying in the street, according to a department statement.
Northrup was pronounced dead at the scene.
CHP investigators learned that a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu fled the scene following the collision and was followed by a witness northbound on Garfield Avenue, where authorities eventually located the vehicle and arrested 35-year- old Lilibeth Cindy Gonzalez.
Events leading up to the crash were under investigation.
