LONG BEACH, Calif. – A woman who was struck by an SUV in Long Beach died at a hospital, police said Thursday.
The woman was injured about 10 p.m. Friday on Pacific Coast Highway at River Avenue, and she was hospitalized in critical condition, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
On Wednesday, authorities were notified that she had died, police said. Her name was withheld, pending notification of relatives.
“Through their preliminary investigation, detectives determined a 2005 Dodge Durango, driven by a male adult resident of the city of Compton, was traveling westbound on Pacific Coast Highway at River Avenue,” police said in a statement.
“The pedestrian was walking southbound (across) Pacific Coast Highway and was struck by the vehicle as she was crossing the road, outside of a crosswalk,” police said.
The motorist stopped and cooperated with officers, police said. His name was not released.
