NORTH HOLLYWOOD, Calif. – A North Hollywood man charged with child abuse that police said led to permanent head and brain injuries to his 14-month-old son is expected to return to court Sept. 13.
Cesar Cabrera, 21, was charged Wednesday with assault on a child resulting in paralysis of a permanent nature and child abuse resulting in great bodily injury, police said.
Cabrera was identified as the suspect following a lengthy investigation led by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Abused Child Section, police said. He confessed during questioning and admitted to the abuse, police said.
Cabrera was arrested Tuesday and released after posting $100,000 bail.
The boy was taken to a hospital by ambulance on March 22 for emergency surgery, after sustaining what was later identified as permanent head and brain injuries, police said.
