Central Basin Director calls for investigation into agencies General Manager

0
By 2UrbanGirls on August 23, 2022 Legal

A member of the Central Basin Municipal Water District’s board of directors is calling for an investigation into the agencies General Manager after the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office announced he is being charged with 12 counts of money laundering.

Alejandro (Alex) Rojas has served as the agencies general manager since 2020 after leaving his career in education. The charges stem from Rojas’ employment with the Bassett Unified School District between 2014 and 2017, when it was alleged he approved payment for invoices totaling $1 million out of bond proceeds for work never performed by a consultant hired to oversee construction projects on behalf of the district.

2UrbanGirls could not reach Rojas for comment, but when we contacted Director Leticia Vasquez-Wilson she confirmed he was the same person referenced in the Aug. 24 press release issued by the District Attorney’s office.

Late last year when Rojas sought a raise from the water agencies director’s, Vasquez-Wilson and colleague Martha Camacho-Rodriguez voted against it citing Rojas’ lack of qualifications for the job.

Alex Rojas does not deserve a raise on the back our ratepayers. He’s unqualified and does not meet the general requirements according to Central Basin’s Admin Code.

As water rates increase, Central Basin raises Manager’s salary

Vasquez-Wilson is calling for an investigation into Rojas’ activities while serving as the head of the water agency that provides service to nearly 2 million residents.

Alex Rojas is carrying out the same practices that he was recently indicted on as the General Manager of Central Basin Water District since he was hired in November of 2020. I call upon my colleagues on the Board to immediately review his conduct. I Also call upon District Attorney Gascon to immediately expand their investigation to include Mr. Rojas actions as General Manager at Central Basin MWD.  Our ratepayers deserve a full investigation into his actions and those  Board members (Board President Arturo Chacon, Vice President Noe Negrete, Director Phil Hawkins, Director Robert Apodaca, Director Michael Gualtieri and Director Terri Rodrigue) that continue to support Alex Rojas’ lawless and corrupt actions.
