INGLEWOOD – Authorities have finally released the identity of a man found dead in the lake at SoFi Stadium July 6.
Javier Bautista-Reyes, 45, was identified after it took authorities a month to locate his next of kin.
His cause of death was not identified as a drowning. It is deferred pending additional investigation.
The version of events leading up to his death were detailed as “a person trespassing on the property” who was able to walk from the entrance at Century Blvd, through the construction site, past a parking garage and NFL Network headquarters, and into the lake, all allegedly while security followed his movement on surveillance cameras.
Inglewood Mayor James T. Butts Jr. was dispatched by Hollywood Park Management Co. to provide details to the public despite his admitting he never saw the footage he described in great detail.
HPMC has pumped hundreds of thousands of dollars into the election coffers of the mayor, and members of the city council for over a decade.
The mayor was photographed with HPMC government relations liaison Gerard McCallum the day of the drowning. McCallum is now seeking election to the local water board.
