INGLEWOOD – Inglewood continues to be a paradise for developers looking to cash in on the hype of the renaissance of the city of Inglewood thanks to the sports entertainment district thrusting the City into the international spotlight.
Developers have submitted a proposal to build a 13 story mixed used development at the site currently known as the Tradewinds Adventurer Hotel formerly known as a backpackers paradise.
The site located at 4200 W. Century Blvd. has been plagued with issues of illicit activity ranging from drug sales, prostitution and murders which doesn’t jive with the future of the city considering its close proximity to SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome.
The owners of the property have entered into a long-term lease agreement with developers to create the mixed-use development which could have devastating impacts for the area. Occupants would literally be looking into the backyards of homeowners for at minimum of two miles from the proposed site.
The city council is expected to approve a “peer review” agreement with the developer paying the City close to $25,000 for said services on the Aug. 23 regular city council agenda.
The city appears to be methodically redeveloping areas that are synonymous with illicit activity. Is that a good thing?
On the same council agenda, the city is clearing out portions of 101st Street for Murphy’s Bowl LLC.

Kinda feels like we’re just being mad for the sake of being mad here? “The site located at 4200 W. Century Blvd has been plagued with issues of illicit activity ranging from drug sales, prostitution and murders” — Why are we mad that a new building will be replacing this and hopefully making the area safer and nicer for Inglewood residents? Also, a 13 story building would add additional housing units to Inglewood, which hopefully slows the rate of rent increases that have been taking place all over this city. Reading reviews of this Tradewinds hotel (Rated 2.6 / 5 on google) it sounds like this place is awful and infested with roaches, so why are we mad this building would be getting replaced and the area getting upgraded? Really just seems like some folks are just going to be mad anytime something new pops up regardless of whether or not it improves the local area. I appreciate how much people love Inglewood, and in many ways I hope the city doesn’t change too much to where it loses its character, but fighting for this roach infested motel known for crime and violence to stay is not it. Shame.
Well, well, well, here it is those who Butt’s called naysayers and obstructionists were right again!
Pre-Covid when the council moved the meetings to a time most with normal work schedules could not attend the Naysayers said hey that is not fair to those who are impacted by the companies that want to ruin our neighborhoods by creating offensive structures which take away home owners privacy….we as individuals deserve the right to at a minimum be heard by those who are supposed to represent us !!
Well this is why council meetings should have never been changed.. HARDWORKING FAMILIES Simply DO NOT MATTER to the selected!
Yes SELECTED by those outsiders with big bank accounts to occupy positions which make decisions about OUR FUTURE. The Council should be OUR NEIGHBORS who actually live in our neighborhood and remember they are no more equal than us.
Okay for fun how many of us think a thirteen story hotel would approved if it overlooked the backyard of any of the council members????? What is that? only the commissioners think that would be approved —- oh course it would- when the we discover the moon is made of apple pie!..
As some tried to warn Inglewood residents we must be careful who we elect. Those whose pockets are filled by those outside our community will never have our best interest at heart!!!
If you think somehow this is only skyscraper in the hopper, then Sweethearts we need to talk – Bunnies do not lay chocolate eggs and Tinkerbell has a suspended wire to “help her fly” from the castle top -her wings are getting old don’t ya know?
The whole “peer review” process essentially means a guy who wants to build a similar project across the street or around the block will “review” and give endorsement in exchange for similar “review” result of his project later. A nice neat you bring the donuts this week I’ll get the coffee next week we switch kinda nicety.
Oh yes, “Manhattan-ing” our community into skyscrapers is the plan – think not research each of the campaign contributors to either the Butts or Padilla campaign yourself and share with us why the people of Chicago, New York, Dallas and oh yes China care who sits on our City Council. Please share your theory …
We like so many in years gone by will be moved out – given some insignificant trinket for our compliance or if this group remains in power the city will begin eminent domain. Our only hope is a brand new group of not related individuals with their own brains on the city council. Each able to discuss and debate in public as required by law and disregarded by the Butt Team.
Please get a reality check in your head before your ballot arrives.
How is it the city can afford parties at election time but doesn’t have the will or money to fix sidewalks?
How is it this council voted to shred police use of force documents when California law says it should not be done? Ohhhh let us not forget two wore police badges—-kinda makes you wonder how many cases they know where they or their co-hearts acted in a way that was…inappropriate (?) ie worse doesn’ It?
The lack moral character -of conflict of interest is much more than a “zipper issue” it extends to the reality that one council member’s “other job” has him working for companies which do business in the city and he does nor let voters know when those issues arrive before on the agenda before the city council!!
Oh and since they get paid handsomely for their supposedly “full-time job” how is it at least two have OTHER FULL TIME JOBS????
Butts is not one of our neighbors, his actions tell us he not concerned about what we say think or about how his actions impact us – He used a fake address and then his in- law’s address to run for mayor while his residence remained in “ Ladera” a section of Los Angeles- not Inglewood.
Alex Padilla (subordinate of Butts while at Santa Monica Police Department) lives in the Heights of Ladera the newer area of Inglewood across La Cienega, behind the TGI Friday shopping Center, south of Culver City where in 2005 parents declared they did not want the students of their “prestigious enclave” mixing with the lessors of Inglewood and petitioned to be annexed to Culver City School District.
Could it be their “better than” attitude is why they only seem to interact with us lessors is only when there partying and photos at election time?
