The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is tackling street takeovers plaguing the community since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. With less people on the roads, what started as one off’s have exploded into nightmares for residents who experience the takeovers sometimes happening multiple times per day.
Sheriff Alex Villanueva shared a news clip of CBS report Joy Benedict riding with deputies as they seek to eliminate street takeovers as they are brought to the department’s attention.
The takeovers are particularly troublesome in the city of Compton who has experienced takeovers happening multiple times per day and sometimes resulting in the death of either participants or spectators.
