LOS ANGELES – A suspect was shot by Los Angeles Police Department officers in Leimert Park Monday evening.
Officers were called to the area of Degnan Boulevard and Edgehill Drive on reports of an assault with a deadly weapon, KCAL9 reported about 9 p.m.
Details leading up to the shooting were not clear, but the suspect and officers made their way to the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Bronson Avenue, where the shooting occurred, according to the LAPD.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and taken to a hospital in unknown condition, though KCAL9 reported the suspect was conscious and breathing when transported by paramedics.
Residents on scene allege the suspect suffers from mental illness.
“I heard three loud shots and no return fire,” said one resident who lives nearby.
No officers were injured in the shooting.
