Compton Community College has 3 board seats up for election in November

COMPTON – The Compton Community College District (CCCD) has three positions open on the Board of Trustees that will be elected by area voters during the upcoming General Election to be held on November 8, 2022. Applicants interested in running for a CCCD Board of Trustees position may find election and candidate information on the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk website at www.lavote.gov.

Elections will be for the following positions:

Trustee Area 1          Compton, Lynwood, and East Rancho Dominguez  

Trustee Area 4          Paramount, Bellflower, Lakewood, Long Beach

Trustee Area 5          Compton, Carson

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and registered voters residing in Trustee Areas 1, 4 or 5. While the areas listed above have city/community designations, the geographical boundaries are not exactly the same as the municipalities referenced. The official County of Los Angeles Election district maps should be consulted for exact CCCD trustee area boundaries: https://www.lavote.gov/apps/precinctsmaps.

The candidate application filing period with the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk Office is July 18, 2022 through August 12, 2022.

The CCCD is seeking candidates who have the skills, ability and time to fulfill the duties of being a member of the Board that, acting as a unit:

  • Advocates for and protect the district;
  • Assists in establishing a climate in which high standards are maintained and institutional goals are accomplished;
  • Acts in legal, ethical, and prudent ways;
  • The Board of Trustees hires and evaluates the President/Chief Executive Officer (CEO);
  • Respects the authority of the district’s President/CEO to manage the day-to-day affairs of the District and to oversee the work of District personnel in the appropriate performance of their duties by providing direction and guidance only to the President/CEO.

Trustees elected in November 2022 for Trustee Areas 1, 4 and 5 will serve a term of four years, commencing on the second Friday in December subsequent to their election.

The dates and times for the Board of Trustees’ regular meetings are set at the annual organizational meeting held in December.

Information Session for Interested Individuals

The Compton Community College District has scheduled two information sessions for individuals who are interested in serving on the District’s Board of Trustees for Trustee Areas 1, 4 or 5. Both information sessions will take place via Zoom from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Click on the links below for the Zoom meeting login information, or visit the District website: https://www.compton.edu/district/.

The information sessions will provide an opportunity for candidates to receive an update on the CCCD and Compton College including academic and job training programs offered at Compton College, enrollment for fall at Compton College, the college’s COVID-19 response plans, a campus facilities update, and more.
