Unfortunately, a sad reality to say the least, security officers on IUSD campuses are not well-trained in the latest campus security measures. Some, especially in the senior high schools, cross the line between security officer and police officer – which most have never been. Some even hold grudges against students who may be repeat offenders. Others do not patrol the campus and students know their routine(s). When confronted by immediate supervisors they act as if they are doing their job. Why have some been shifted around to several schools year after year? Is there no accountability for ones actions? Clearly, based on this letter, there is a discrepancy. District security supervisors need to patrol their patrollers more—even if they consider themselves friends.
Unsafe schools, my children and nephews will NOT be returning to Inglewood, they are now enrolled at ANIMO Charter and Torrance. No school is 100% safe, but the staff at both locations is complety night and day, it seems I nglewood only hired the bottom of the pit, i would not be surprized they have criminal records.
So nerve wrecking, my children will be attending Centinnela until they finish their education, it is heart breaking our local district is SO UNSAFE…..SO SAD
My daughter used to go to parent elementary, I took her out, she was bullied and harassed and even threatening with a knife. Principal did nothing, she just shook her head, I’m glad to hear she’s no longer there, the bigger problem is safety across the district it is so unsafe
How disgusting, if you look at all the plans they are full of shit load of errors. Keeping it 100 this is wack. My nieces and nephews have attended and graduated, both read at elementary level, where is the equity?
Inglewood Schools have not been safe for over 50 years. None of my friends or family have their children attend, hence the low enrollment and now closure of schools. IUSD needs to be gutted and re-structured to remove all parties. Nepotism is entrenched is IUSD.
I graduated in 1998 when race riots was a normal thing twice a year.
All, ya think Inglewood High is bad? Come to Morningside, thug central. The security guards are worse than gang bangers, they call the shots. I attended 10 years ago, none of my kids go to the District, it’s awful how it continues to windle down. Now with the sale of land behind morningside it will get worse, as the other commenter stated, we need to wash out all of inglewood unified, all the updates about school renovations will not physically protect or educate a child, we need a safe campus and teachers who truly care. BTW, there are good teachers, I had them, just bad leaders.
Thank you for researching the school site safety plan and sharing your findings.
Unfortunately the reality is most parents do not lookup the plan to discover what is or is supposed to be in place until an incident takes place.
There are many opportunities to be involved in the educational process unfortunately most parents do not participate in the decisions impacting education
For example : Rarely does anyone review the textbooks selected- Do you know what political or social slant your children are being told is best ? What are they being told is the cause of global warming, the economic recession, or the difference between democracy and communism, not to mention gender issues or whether there is a God or not? What careers are they subliminally directed toward?
Yes raising the next generation takes a whole lot of people including parents and community members watching how and where our tax dollars are being spent.
Sufficient safety officers and police officers to assist teachers in keeping bullying and fighting to a minimum, as well as maintaining a presence to discourage drug sales and weapons possession should be considered an essential.
Can you believe we have paid someone several years to discover why parents take their students elsewhere? Hint -safety perception maybe one reason.
Perhaps Ben Franklin gives us a clue as to the importance of seeing the big picture and spending carefully- check his comments “For want of a nail a shoe was lost, for want of a shoe the horse was ……”
But let us get real – education has been a very low priority in Inglewood Unified for many years .
Inglewood has become the consultant’s dream come true. Between architects, attorneys and a host of contractors unions those little creatures with two legs and impressionable minds have been seen as the cash cow to make life-time pensions and “change order” heaven a reality.
Simply lost in the strategic builders campaign / compensation quid pro quo is the student!
Lack of parent/ community involvement puts all of us at risk.
Our students are short changed by their lack of minimum proficiency. And our community is shortchanged when our precious tax dollars are being used as a divisive weapon separating us between east side vs west side., brand new wonder schools vs no schools.
And who is to blame? That would be that person in the mirror for not telling the State Assembly Members and State Senators we are done with the uninterested and inexperienced state appointed County Administrators destroying our schools for the benefit of contractors and developers (aka their campaign donors.) See Los Cerritos News
In November will you decide “same-o-same-o” is the best we can expect”
This is why all of my children NEVER attended any Inglewood school. Where is chief carter? He was recently arrested for illegal activities while he was the chief for inglewood.

Chief Carter been charged with pulling double duty at marijuana facilities while on the clock at IUSD.
