Dear 2UrbanGirls,
As a longtime resident of the city of Inglewood I like the progress being done. But when the progress starts to shut down longtime businesses and make people sell their homes because they can no longer afford to live in the city it’s time to look at who or what is making those changes.
We are coming up on elections the seat up for grabs is the Mayor’s. Word on the street is he isn’t running for re-election but potentially endorsing Alex Padilla (District 2) councilman. Mr Padilla is not the right person for the job , he has been indoctrinated by the current Mayor (Butts). All this city council sees at this point is dollar signs!! They sold the city to the highest bidder! We need a Mayor who will advocate for everyone in the city regardless of color, race, or social economic status.
We need a Mayor who will help and try to get the IUSD out of receivership from the state. We need a Mayor who will keep the IPD in place and not have so many officers leave the city because of “low morale”. We need a Mayor who will work for those who elected him and not just the greedy corporations coming into the city.
We don’t need Alex Padilla as our next Mayor. By voting for him we will continue to see more displacements of mom and pop businesses. By voting for him we are basically voting for Mayor Butts again! We need change in City Hall!
Respectfully submitted,
Angry Inglewood resident/Voter

We need a Mayor that will keep our property values high. If Alex Padilla is in lock step with buts then I will vote for him. As a life long Ingelwood resident I don’t understand why local residents are pushing back against progress. Do we not deserver to live in better neighborhoods? Lets reap the benefits of gentrification by NOT selling our properties and NOT moving. Rent control is in place for a reason.
Well said !
A brief example of Alex Padilla’s votes impacting residents and small businesses includes:
Alex Padilla has voted against having meetings when people who work can attend.
Alex Padilla voted for every employee promotion and salary increase that came before him even creating job titles for persons who had no qualifications or experience for those well paid positions…
Alex Padilla voted to sue a resident for sharing snip-its of council meetings.
Alex Padilla voted to rezone all of the area west of La Cienega and east of the freeway directly across the freeway from Home Depot
Alex Padilla voted to rezone the 3 shopping centers and surround at Crenshaw and Imperial.
Alex Padilla voted to shred public records of the stadium petition
Alex Padilla voted to shred Police Use of Force complaints/investigations.
Alex Padilla during the entire time as council member has NEVER had had a discussion about an agenda item except in his attempt to belittle a resident and praise James Butts
Alex Padilla has sat silently beside and often joined in when the Mayor verbally attacked residents for bringing their concerns about agenda items
Alex Padilla has NEVER VOTE NO for any item on the city council agenda even admitting he discusses items before the meetings with the Mayor – a violation of the BROWN ACT.
TO BE FAIR each of the other council members (George Dotson, Eloy Morales and the recently selected Dionne Faulk) have likewise voted in Rubber-stamp fashion, often without staff reports, discussion or debate. Each has shown they are happy to surrender their image and spend less than an hour a week for the $60,000.00 plus benefits task of simply agreeing with what is placed in front of them.
Until the election documents are actually filed we do not know who the actual candidates will be, but surely there is an actual resident who is not sold out to campaign contributors AND who will value the participation, opinions, and rights of every resident of our community.
This community deserves democracy…..which includes public participation, public debate, public discussion, AND public accountability.
Check out the Rick Steves PBS documentary on Fascism and see how many similarities between our current “leader” and Europe’s fascist you can count…it is ..rather enlightening….. Hmmmm thousands of tax dollars spent on consultants – remember the photos on bus benches ? Hmmmmm do the council meeting sound like weekly praise assemblies? Does that sound a little like “adoration manipulation”? and then about those multiple attacks on and attempt to control the press…..the list goes on ….and on….and on
Surely there are three good men/women in Inglewood to fill the District 1, 2 and Mayor chairs.
The current elected have already showed us whose benefit they vote for – do you think it is yours?
