LA County residents went to the polls and most of the results were to be expected. Several elected’s ran unopposed so this election update will focus on big ticket races of interest to this author.
SHERIFF
Sheriff Alex Villanueva currently holds the lead over Robert Luna with 31% of the vote. Despite stripping on a local news show, and calling one of his good friends a “white supremacist” Cecil Rhambo placed 4th.
CA-37
Sen. Sydney Kamlager will face former Los Angeles Councilman Jan Perry in the November runoff.
Assembly District 62
Tina McKinnor continues to hold a less than 1,000 vote lead over Lawndale Mayor Robert Pullen-Miles to finish the term vacated by Autumn Burke.
Assembly District 61
Robert Pullen-Miles holds a small lead over McKinnor which will see the two of them advance to the General Election in November for a full term in office.
Los Angeles Mayor
We are not surprised Rick Caruso is in the top two and will face Karen Bass in November.
LONG BEACH
Rex Richardson and Suzie Price will face off in the General Election.
LYNWOOD
A controversial ballot measure to extend the terms of the city council appears to be headed for passage with 64% of the electorate in favor of the additional time.
COMPTON UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT
Incumbents Satra Zurita and Alma Pleasant have fended off their challengers, with newcomer Denzell Perry receiving over 50% of the vote to represent Area A.
The Los Angeles County Registrar’s office will continue to provide updates for the next week to account for all ballots mailed in that had to be postmarked by June 7 in order to be counted.
