LOS ANGELES (CNS) – “Jurassic World Dominion” kept its spot atop the box office rankings in its second weekend in North American theaters, pulling in $58.6 million to outpace the opening of Pixar’s “Lightyear,” according to industry estimates released Sunday.
The latest installment of the dinosaur franchise — which stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard and brings back Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill from director Steven Spielberg’s original 1993 film, “Jurassic Park” — is coming off a $143 million opening weekend.
“Lightyear,” a spinoff from the “Toy Story” films starring Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz Lightyear, made $51 million for second place, Comscore reported. Pixar had high expectations for the film, which had a production budget of $200 million, according to reports in multiple trade publications.
Meanwhile, “Top Gun: Maverick” continued its outstanding run, grossing another $44 million Friday through Sunday in its fourth weekend, bringing its domestic gross to $466 million.
“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” was fourth with $4.2 million in its seventh week in theaters, followed by “The Bob’s Burgers Movie,” which made $1.1 million in its fourth week.
Rounding out the top 10 domestic releases, as estimated by Comscore, were “The Bad Guys” ($980,000), “Everything Everywhere All at Once” ($959,000), “Downton Abbey: A New Era” ($830,000), “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” ($228,000) and “Brian and Charles” ($198,000).
